Golf, perhaps more than any other sport, is a game passed down through the generations from father to son, mother to daughter, grandparent to grandchild. Only through the cultivation of a truly unique relationship does golf stick in the psyche of a child. A parent or grandparent’s encouragement, praise, and guidance in the game can shape a young golfer into a strong, confident, aware member of the golfing community and beyond.  It is our goal in the Ptarmigan Junior Golf Program to enhance and mold the many different personalities you have created, so we can live and play better together, and grow in the game of golf. 

As in years past, we will be continuing our play days on Tuesdays and clinic days on Thursdays.  We will however be moving starting times on Tuesdays from morning to late afternoons.  We hope this move will allow parents to have more involvement in the play days as well as accommodate those busy summer schedules.

Ptarmigan Junior Club Championship – new in 2009!
Ptarmigan will hold a championship weekend in 2009 and want to our juniors to be a big part of it.  Using the Tuesday play days as qualifiers, we will invite the top performers in each age division to compete in the Junior Club Championship held on the Friday of Championship weekend.  The winners will be acknowledged at the Sunday awards banquet along with all the other club champions.  We are extremely proud of our juniors and want give all of them a chance to compete and be recognized!  

Ptarmigan Junior Golf Program
The basic structure of the program will remain the same for 2009. The program will span six weeks for students ages 8-18. The 5-7 age group will remain a three week program, and exclude play days. However, the staff strongly encourages parents and grandparents to take those youngsters out to play and practice what they have learned. The following is the schedule for the 2009 Junior Program:

Clinic Starting Times – Thursdays

• Ages 5-7: 8:00 (final three weeks beginning June 25th)
• Ages 8-10: 9:00
• Ages 11-13: 10:00
• Ages 14-18: 11:00

Play Day Starting Times – Tuesdays

• Ages 8-10: 5:15pm
• Ages 11-13: 4:30pm
• Ages 14-18: 4:00pm

We encourage all participants to attend the Year End Skills Challenge and Banquet held on Tuesday, July 14th.  Please contact the pro shop today for sign up…we look forward to seeing all of you soon!

2009 Junior Golf Fees

• Ages 5-7: $50
• Ages 8-18: $115
  

Due to the enthusiastic support of our membership, the Ptarmigan Junior Golf Program must be restricted to member’s children and grandchildren. We understand the desire for friends of your children to participate in the program. Unfortunately, in order to regulate class size, and cater to our membership, we must enforce these guidelines. 

2009 Northern Colorado Junior Golf Tour
Ptarmigan will continue to participate in the Northern Colorado Junior Golf Tour in 2009. This is a great opportunity for our young golfers to compete with other local junior talent throughout our region. Each “Tour” site will consist of three divisions with four golfers per division. Those divisions are: 18 Hole Boys, 18 Hole Girls, and 9 Hole Mixed. Juniors age 10-17 are eligible to participate but must be under 14 to play in the 9 hole division.  Fees will be determined by the individual host courses.  Each participant is responsible for checking in and paying greens fees at each course.   All food and beverage arrangements will be left to the individual golfers too. Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from each site.

In order to equitably determine Ptarmigan’s Junior Golf Tour Team, we will hold a 9 hole qualifier for any interested junior golfers on Saturday, May 30th, with tee times starting at 4:00.  Start times will be given on a first come, first served basis. You must call the pro shop to sign up for this qualifier!

Costs for each site will be available at a later date. Prizes will also be awarded by the host pro shop for each event, and an overall event.
